Back to School

It’s that time of the year.

While in the US I saw a co-worker wearing a t-shirt that said: “A school is four walls with tomorrow inside”. I loved it.

What do you like the most about going to school?

  1. The first days when you see again your friends and even your teachers, and maybe new schollmates, new teachers. Also the new subjects, new books, etc.

But, when you have to study, sometimes it's bored; however, I like too the end of the year, because you must have learned a lot of things.

  2. When I was a child, the thing I liked the most when I came back to school was the smell of the new books, I've always been attracted by that subtle smell. But as the year advanced, as the smell went away, my positive feelings about school changed step by step.
Now, as a teacher, I appreciate so much when your pupils are glad to see you again.

  3. I too used to love the smell of book pages, and still do. I used to love going shopping for school materials, starting notebooks, trying someone else's pen (I used to think my handwriting would change if I did). I never really liked school as a child, however, I love going to school nowadays. I now fully understand the importance of Education.

  4. Although this is not about school, I hope that you will find it interesting. I like cinema and also people talking about it. Better if they know what they say. Don´t click these links if you haven´t seen Psycho and The Big Lebowski, especially the first one!
There is nothing about the plot, but I recommend watching the whole film and the effect of these scenes before knowing how they were shot. I have to improve my English to understand just a single word from John Goodman, Jeff Bridges and Steve Buscemi´s conversation. However, it doesn´t matter. Just listening to the real voices and how they say things worth it.

  5. As well as the smell of book pages, I enjoyed covering them with plastic and having a quick look to the new subjects before going to school. I felt excited about the new experiences, classmates, teachers, ...
I love this quote by Sócrates "I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think".

  6. When I think of movies that have school scenes there are so many that come to mind. However, if I had to choose one I'd go for this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RKOLFxxq5E. I love this movie scene. I haven't been able to find the original one (without the alterations in terms of music),though.
Thanks to my last year students for still following my blog.

  7. Ana, I like your sentence. Perhaps making people think is quite difficult too.
